The day I turned 39

I know, I know, I’m not 39, but what to do when I act younger (ie, immature) and I shop at Forever 21?

We went to San Diego, since it was my wish to be surrounded with family on this big event. Imagine my disappointment when no one wanted to spend time with me. Danielle wasn’t home when we stopped by. Tu said he had to spend time with Dao’s sister when I called. I was on the verge of tears. I wanted to go home, to Fremont. Tuyet and Kurt finally picked me and Mom up and we went to Encinitas and walked around the town. Later, Kurt had to go meet his friend in Coronado, so we all just went along. The whole time, my heart sank. I kept questioning myself why I felt that way; whether I was over-sensitive or just dramatizing the birthday thing. There are more important things in life than someone’s birthday! Not a big thing …

I was so happy that no one forgot about me! Everyone, almost, was there. Mom, brother, sisters, nephews and nieces. I drank a lot, laughed non-stop, didn’t eat much. I recall the food was good. I had the beef tenderloin, and some chocolatey dessert. I nudged Kim-Dao to drink, but she’s still a drinker-in-training.

I have to thank Tuyet and Kurt for organizing the whole thing from A to Z. From finding the most romantic private room, to sending out invitations to families, to selecting and decorating the tables with flowers and candles.
