Every few months, I’m being reminded of my age when I look at the grey hair sprouting from the crown of my head. Not that my sweet and sensitive kids haven’t already regularly and explicitly reminded me of my position as the mother, and my age as being past the half-century mark.
So it’s that time again. If I lift up my hair, I can see grey roots everywhere. I still can’t accept those things being part of me. They look like wild grass, and I feel the urge to pluck them. But I’m smarter than that. It’s better having grey hair to dye, than having no hair.
It used to be, that the grey hair was only on the left side of the head, where I parted my hair. So when the grey part started to become visible, I parted my hair on the right side. That gave me an extra month of youth. Now, I can’t cheat anymore. The wild grass invaded the whole head, and I have no recourse but open my Clairol box every two months.
The process actually is not that bad. The whole thing, including the wait, took at most an hour. I’ve been using Clairol Perfect10. It has the special tool that oozes out the creme as you comb through your hair. And you sit there and wait for 10 minutes. And then rinse. And voila! Young and beautiful again. I’m such low-maintenance girl!
I must have about 8 boxes, of several different colors. I keep switching between Darkest Brown, Medium Brown, Light Ash Brown, and Lightest Cool Brown. It’s a difficult decision to chose the color, because they all seem to look the same!
So here I go! Lightest Cool Brown this time, and beautiful in no time!
Updates:
12/31/2009 – I can’t believe how totally grey the top of my head is and I just had my hair dyed 3 weeks back. I think using light color on grey roots is a bad idea. So today, I’m re-coloring my hair with Medium Brown. Let’s see how long this will last.
01/06/2010 – I really like Medium Brown. I think Dark Brown would have been too dark. So, Medium Brown it will forever be. Me think!
04/21/2010 – Guess what color is on the wild grass this time? Yup, Dark Brown! It was kinda too dark right after the coloring and the hair was still wet. But I like it now, whether because what other choice do I have, or it was a matter of getting used to it. With the dark hair and pale skin, I will be sporting red lipstick and look so cool …
