2009 came and is going fast

What an idea! But it’s not mine. I borrowed it from reading several personal development sites, that as we make resolutions for the new year, we should also acknowledge the events and accomplishments from the year before. We not only show our gratitude but also do a status check of our goals. We change what no longer applies, and improve what turns out to be life goals.

EVENTS

In June this year, I got my childhood dream fulfilled. My best friend lives in Bordeaux. We have been seeing each other every few years, have taken short trips to go see relatives and friends; but never taken a trip with just the two of us. This year, with not much planning in advance, we decided to jump ship and take the risk. And we had the most memorable time.

The saying “you play, you pay” has never rung so true. One month after I came back from the trip, whether it was due to exhaustion or too much sun exposure or just pure imagination, I had the stroke. It sets me back, forces me to observe my life and people and things around me, and throws me on different paths.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I’ve become more energy conscious. I tried teaching and reminding everyone to turn off the lights when not in need, run the washer when you have a full load. My PG&E bill at one point was down to $90 a month, the lowest ever.

I’ve been eating more greens. I still cook meat for company, but I know I feel much better when I eat vegetables. It’s almost like my body can no longer digest meat well. So, instead of eating beef, I’m turning into a cow! Haha!

Before the stroke, I was very diligent about exercising. I went to the gym not to lose weight but to feel good. I actually felt happy after a hard workout.

I’ve staying in closed touch with my Mom. Maybe not as closed as my sibblings’. But I call Mom every weekend. I talk to her even more frequent now, since I really have time on my hand, ie, still on my disability. Geez, I really need to make time to go see her soon. Mom is turning 80 this year.
