Hawaiian Meatballs

A favorite at all parties, for adults and children. Super easy to make once you have all the ingredients; you just assemble the dish and leave it cooking for couple of hours while you’re off doing something else.  For this recipe, I use Kirkland italian-style meatballs. Safeway has Hoisin sauce in the international food area. This is the sauce you eat Pho with.

  • 4 lbs of Meatballs
  • 1 bottle of hoisin sauce ( plain or garlic-flavored)
  • 1 jar of pineapple marmalade (jam/perserve). Last time, I substituted apricot and pineapple for just pineapple, because the apricot mix was cheaper.
  • 5 cloves of garlic, chopped. Or 1 tsp of garlic powder.
  • Half of an onion, chopped.
  • Couple squirts (or more) of Siracha sauce

Place the meatballs in the crockpot. Then add the rest of the ingredients. Stir everything together. Cook at High for 2-3 hours. The meatballs will release its juice, so do not add any water. How to tell it’s ready is when the juice is thick, or when you lift up a meatball with a fork and you see it glistened with the juice.

Easy, yes?

For variations, I sometimes add a can of cut pineapple (drained). Or cut up green bell pepper for colors.

I serve it with rice as an entree. Or by itself as an appetizer. Enjoy!
